Adventist Christian Fellowship is the official Ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for students attending public Colleges and Universities across the Atlantic Union Conference and the North American Division.
Public College and University Campuses are one of the biggest mission fields for the Adventist students. The Northeast of the United States has a very large population of College and University students, due to the large concentration of institutions of higher learning located from New York to Maine.
Some of the larger schools in our Atlantic Union territory are: New York University (NYU) with over 42,000 students; Excelsior College in Albany, New York with 33,000 students; Boston University with almost 32,000 students; University at Buffalo with 28,000 students; Harvard University with 26,000 students; University of Massachusetts at Amherst with 26, 000 students; Northeastern University in Boston, with more than 25,000 students; University of Connecticut with 24,000 students; Stony Brook University in the North Shore of Long Island, with almost 24,000 students; Columbia University, in New York City, with 23,000 students; Suffolk County Community College, in Long Island, New York, with 23,000 students; Nassau Community College with almost 22,000 students; CUNY Borough of Manhattan Community College with 21,800 students, and CUNY Hunter College in Manhattan, NY, with over 21,000 students.
Six out of the eight famous and world renown Ivy League Schools are located here in the Atlantic Union territory: Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island; Columbia University, in New York City; Cornell University, in Ithaca, New York; Dartmouth College, in Hanover, New Hampshire; Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts; and Yale University, in New Haven, Connecticut. The term Ivy League has connotations of academic excellence, selectivity in admissions, and social elitism. We need our students attending these schools to reach out to classmates in each campus with love, kindness, tact and knowledge.
The schools mentioned above are only the largest ones in our area, but there are plenty of smaller Community Colleges, Colleges, and Universities all around us with students, from Freshmen College to Doctoral, and Post Graduate Students who need the hope of Jesus, which we must share. These campuses are filled with students who will become highly influential and perhaps the leaders of our country and the world in the years to come, they need someone to share Jesus and the Advent Message with them.
We would like to encourage each College & University student in New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and at the Bermuda College, in Bermuda to get involve in ministry and relevant outreach on campus.
