The Holy Scriptures (One of the Fundamental Beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church)
The Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. In this Word, God has committed to man the knowledge necessary for salvation. The Holy Scriptures are the infallible revelation of His will. They are the standard of character, the test of experience, the authoritative revealer of doctrines, and the trustworthy record of God’s acts in history. |
| (2 Peter 1:20, 21; 2 Tim. 3:16, 17; Ps. 119:105; Prov. 30:5, 6; Isa. 8:20; John 17:17; 1 Thess. 2:13; Heb. 4:12.) |
For years we have been known to be the “People of the Book.” Why? Because from our humble beginnings our pioneers searched Scriptures, parted away from traditions and well established believes which had no Biblical foundation and focused on what God was saying through the Bible. At times, they got it wrong, but they did not give up, they kept on searching, even if unpopular at times, because they wanted to know the will of God and His plans for His people. We have been a church that believes the Bible to be the Word of God, loves it, treasures it, and reads it. The Bible is our only rule of faith and doctrine, we also believe in the following two concepts:
Sola Escritura: The Scriptures are our only rule of faith and doctrine.
Tota Escritura: We believe all of Scripture to be inspired by God and its principles to be relevant in the world in which we live today.
Jesus had something to say about anyone who exchanges His Word for traditions, read more…
