GODencounters 2013 for Young Adults – Vital Information

GODencounters 2013 for Young Adults

TO: Pastor

       Youth & Young Adult Leader

Churches in the Atlantic Union Conference

Dear Colleague & Friend:

I am praying that with the blessing of God, 2013 will be your best year ever, together with your family, your youth, young adults, and the entire church family.

The reason for this brief note is to remind you of our GodEncounters Conference for Young Adults (ages 18-35) to be held at Camp Winnekeag, on the weekend of February 1-3, 2013. It has been announced since last year on different outlets, but I just wanted to make sure that I touched base with you, as the gatekeepers and ministry enablers and leaders of the local church.

GodEncounters is an annual life-changing event attended by hundreds of Young Adults and Young Professionals of the Atlantic Union. It is a time for spiritual, emotional, physical, vision, and mission renewal. A weekend of healing, when lives are changed and decisions are made for Christ. It is also a perfect opportunity for Young Professionals and Young Adults to invite their non-Adventist friends. This year, a special emphasis will be placed on Compassion and how Young Adults can become a vital part of the mission of their local church, by living a life of compassion with the priorities of Jesus.

Together with each Conference Youth Director of the Atlantic Union, we are committed to the Empowerment, Deployment, and Multiplication of our Young Adults. When Young Adults and Young Professionals work for the Lord, next to their Pastors and Churches, awesome things can happen. We want to see these things happen in our midst, in our churches, not in the future, but now. I really appreciate your help in getting the young adults of your church to GodEncounters. With the blessing of God, they will go back closer to Jesus, and ready to make a difference together with you.

Devon Franklin

This year, we have two special features, which our young adults will enjoy big time: (1) Devon Franklin, the Senior Vice-president for Columbia Pictures will be our Featured Speaker; he is an Adventist Young Adult, he recently spoke about his Adventist Faith and his love for the Sabbath on national TV with Oprah. He has an awesome testimony; (2) We will partner with “Stop Hunger Now” to pack 12,000 meals during our time together. These meals will go to people who are hungry in America and throughout the world. An added bonus is that we will have separate breakout sessions for Collegiate Young Adults and Young Professionals.

The necessary information is included (Poster & Registration form). If you need to get in touch with us, feel free to check our website www.AUYouth.com, or call our office at the Atlantic Union Adventist Youth Ministries at (978) 368-8333, extension 3016. Regular updates about the event will be posted on our website, which was previously mentioned, and our Facebook Page: Atlantic Union Adventist Youth Ministries.

Please make this information available to the Young Adults, College, University Students, and Young Professionals in your Church. Have your church sponsor a group, so they can make it. The spiritual, networking, and relationships opportunities of GodEncounters are invaluable.

I am grateful for the opportunity to partner with you in ministry. Your input, prayers, and love are always appreciated and are definitely reciprocated.

Many Blessings & and much Love!

Jose

Adventist Volunteers Needed for NYC Marathon

Adventist Volunteers Needed for NYC Marathon
Hundreds of Adventist Youth & Young Adults have already volunteered and hundreds more are signing up to assist in one of the most prestigious and famous marathons in the world, the New York City Marathon, with over 47, 340 runners. Last year 365 Adventists volunteered; this year, we would like to have 1,000 volunteers. The New York Road Runners Association is requesting our help. If you live in the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) or anywhere else and would like to participate all you need to do is sign up. This volunteer effort is one of the NY13 (New York 13) Adventist Youth Ministries Initiatives, as our church reaches out to the New York City Metropolitan Area.

For Youth & Young Adult Groups coming from far away, there are churches and schools willing to accommodate the groups, so many Adventist Young Adults can be a blessing and represent the Seventh-day Adventist Church and Adventist Youth Ministries.

This will be an awesome experience for your group. It is a perfect event to invite non-Adventist friends & family members to participate together, a great occasion to bring your Pastor and Church Elders along, an opportunity to serve in one of the most celebrated sports events in the world, and of course, a time to let others know about our Church. Each volunteer will receive a beanie with the logo of Adventist Youth Ministries and the Compassion Movement, this way, everyone will know whom you represent.

For more information and instructions, please read the letter from Cynthia Sandoval, a young adult of the Greater New York Conference and the organizer of this experience.

Hello Team,
ING NYC Marathon is one of the largest marathon in the world. Last year, a group of 365 volunteers from Greater New York Conference, Northeastern Conference and Southern New England, assisted more than 47,340 runners from all over the world.

This year, we are going to be volunteering again. The New York Road Runners has given the Seventh-Day Adventist Youth Ministries 10 fluid stations including the starting line. They barely have enough volunteers in the Starting line and the Brooklyn locations.

I have included each assignment’s description as well as the fluid stations.

The Start

·         It is located underneath the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in an area called Fort Wadsworth

·         At the start volunteers help with distributing coffee, bagels, and water as well as helping in loading the athlete’s baggage

·         Volunteers are at the start from about 5 am-11am

·         New York Road Runners never has enough volunteers at the start so this would be a great place to have your group

·         Volunteers should be at least 18 years old if they are going to volunteer in this area

Fluid Stations

·         This is the area where we have most of our volunteers (13 or older). We have 24 fluid stations throughout the five boroughs

·         Volunteering at these fluid stations is literally an eight hour day. The shifts are usually either 6am-2pm, 7am-3pm, or 8am-5pm

·         Volunteers help to set up the station, hand out the water and Gatorade to the runners, and clean up after all the runners have come through

The following water stations are available for the Seventh-Day Adventist Youth Ministries:

Starting line: Verrazano Narrows Bridge

Mile 7= Brooklyn 4th Ave. Between 1st and 2nd st

Mile 9= Brooklyn Lafayette Ave. between Grand Ave. and Classon Ave.

Mile 10= Brooklyn Bedford Ave. between Flushing Ave and Lynch St.

Mile 11=Brooklyn Bedford Ave. between South 2nd and South 3rd St.

Mile 14= Queens Vernon Blvd. between 46th Road and 46th Ave.

Mile 18= Manhattan 1st ave. between 96th st and 97th st.

Mile 19= Manhattan 1st ave. between 115th st and 116th st.

Mile 20= Bronx East 138th st. between Alexander and 3rd Ave.

Mile 21= Harlem 5th Ave. between W. 135th st. and 137th st.

Mile 22= Harlem 5th Ave. between 117th and 118th st.

GodEncounters Registration Reopened

Posted in: Collegiate, Latest News, Young Adults
  |  by: AUYouth

January 24, 2012

GodEncounters Registration Reopened
GodEncounters for Young Adults (February 3-5, 2012 @ Camp Winnekeag):
Young adults and Conference Youth Directors from around the Atlantic Union have been calling our office and asking whether there is still room to register. We have decided to reopen Registration for a few more days, since we would like as many young adults as possible to be able to experience GodEncounters. Registration will remain open till Tuesday, January 31 or till all rooms fill up, whichever comes first. Camp Winnekeag’s lodge is already sold out, some space remains in the cabins.
The Flyer and Registration Forms are included right here, you can also register online.
GODencounters is not a program, it is a worldwide holy movement of young adults who are wholeheartedly seeking a 24/7 experience with GOD, recklessly living for His renown, daring to deepen intimacy with GOD, with the desire to:
Live lives of Worship.
Be agents of present Gospel.
Gracefully express compassion.
Pray without ceasing.
Embrace Sabbath as soul CPR.
Morph into His likeness.
Celebrate in Jubilee.

Pastor Jose Cortes
Atlantic Union Adventist Youth Ministries
Director

During the life-changing weekend of February 3-5, 2012, the young adults of the Atlantic Union will experience the love of God and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. They will also be able to get to know and network with other Young Adults, College Students, University Students, and Young Professionals.

The theme for the Retreat is: “The Future is NOW” Divinely Called to Serve & Lead.

Blessings,

Jose
